We have loved Magic Layer Bars for a very long time and when I saw this recipe it was very familiar. So they are similar but this recipe makes a bigger batch and has a few tweaks. You're going to want a bigger batch - especially if you have teenagers.
I made them exactly according to the recipe the first time around and they were way too sweet. And that's coming from someone with a massive sweet tooth. So I tweaked it a bit and am really happy with the result. You find your happy place!
Ingredients
1 1/4 c. salted butter (that's 2 1/2 sticks)
one entire regular box of graham crackers, crushed (3 1/4 cups)
2 ish cans (14 oz each) of sweetened condensed milk
1 c. white chocolate chips
2 c. semi sweet chocolate chips
3/4 c. butterscotch chips
2 c. shredded coconut
1-2 c. crushed pretzels (this helped break up the sweetness)
(see - you can add anything! The original had sliced almonds and milk chocolate chips - whatever you have on hand will be delicious.)
Preheat oven to 350. Melt butter on a cookie sheet while oven is preheating. (I used a regular cookie sheet - if you want them thicker, use a smaller sheet/pan.) Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs into the butter and mix on the pan. Firmly press crumbs into sheet to form a crust. Evenly layer 1 1/2 cans of sweetened condensed milk (it's ok if it doesn't cover every little bit) and all toppings. Seriously whatever you want. Drizzle a little more of the sweetened condensed milk over the top (to taste.)
Bake for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting. Throw into the fridge if you need them to set up more.
